And I'm not even talking about wheelchair user's experience of getting "standard" healthcare in the US. They don't even have accessible exam tables half the time (more than half the time??), not to mention accessible parking, exam rooms themselves, and elevators.

Sometimes disabled people do really live in another (rather, the true) reality. Kind of want to see some research about health risks, healthcare options, and accessibility from abled people compared to disabled people because I'm sure some of the answers would be *wild.*

I was in a separate room and had to get from my bed to the door (6 ft), where the staff with the wheelchair seemed to refuse to come into the room (or maybe the door was too wide?). Also if you have to go to the bathroom after a surgery like that.. they don't have the wheelchair there to begin with.

And if my own parents who really support trans people won't cancel their membership or write or call the USTA, who have played tennis most of their lives,

That's not normal! Being banned from all recreational sports for life based on media assumptions about trans women is not normal!!

I'm imagining not being able to play tennis growing up and it would have 100% made my life worse. There is no doubt.

This is about dignity and humanity of trans women.

I know if it was Jewish women being banned, cis women being banned, basically anyone else being banned, they would do something!

But because trans women are not seen as fully deserving especially in sports, they just say "that's really bad" and continue with their lives. It's maddening.

My family grew up on tennis. My parents currently play in USTA. I played tennis as a kid, and I play wheelchair tennis now. I still cancelled my membership even though I could "technically play."

There was no call to action. They're going to continue to play.

I take the USTA bending to pointless trans hate very personally as tennis' long history of barrier breaking by women and minorities is one of the things I deeply love about it.

if we have to once again drag the sport's paymasters kicking and screaming to the right thing I will be happy to do so.

Based on what @marisakabas.bsky.social wrote, it appears they are threatening the USTA's ability to choose which players go to the olympics and paralympics, so USTA is upending recreational leagues that thousands of people participate in. The professional players should speak up on this.

I did this as well, PLEASE if you are a USTA member cancel your membership and tell them why! Tell them you don't support bigotry!

IF YOU ARE A USTA MEMBER -

You can contact your regional USTA office by phone! And let them know you do not accept them banning trans women from tennis!!

You can send an email to customer support explaining that you are not renewing your membership because they capitulated to bigots!!

If the USTA loses $1 million of revenue because 10% of their adult members cancelled subscriptions, they will probably start listening -
