Born OTD 100 years ago, actor William Forrest Andrews (d 2013). Because of the mid-40s fame of his older brother Dana Andrews, he changed his own name to STEVE FORREST. While he never quite cracked the Hollywood A-list he had memorable lead TV roles such as British TV's art dealer/spy The Baron. 1/2

My vote for the coolest if most ambiguous name for a scholarly association. Who is the keynote this year? Livy? Polybius? It's quite difficult to follow Ephorus with his fragments of text delivery. And please, not Ammianus Marcellinus again. He does go on...

But he may be best remembered for two different roles on Star Trek: asylum escapee Simon van Gelder in season 1's "Dagger of the Mind" (which Woodward later claimed the most exhausting role of his career) and s 2's (baddie again) Cpt Ron Tracey in "The Omega Glory".

Born OTD 100 years ago, veteran character actor Morgan Woodward (d 2019). Had a steady gig on late 50s western "Wyatt Earp" and was 16 different characters on "Gunsmoke". Cinematically, he was the villainous rancher Ab Cross in The Wild Country (1970) vs homesteaders Steve Forrest and Vera Miles.

RIP Robert Redford at 89. I recall seeing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as a 10 year old in 1969. So many other good films, and some early memorable TV roles such as a friendly angel of death in The Twilight Zone episode "Nothing in the Dark" 1962.

Born OTD 100 years ago, "King of the Blues", B.B. King. The guitarist and composer died in 2015 at the age of 89. Ranked no 6 by Rolling Stone Magazine among 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

Alan was always great. Apparently Freddy wanted to chop him too but someone with sense figured he was too popular. It’s been fun watching Nick Tate age over the decades into other roles, like his single episode of Lost.

Well actually season 2 is a bit of a disaster IMHO. The infamous Fred Freiberger (who did the last season of Star Trek) took over production and the whole tone and half the cast changed. For me, Maya didn't compensate for loss of Kano, Paul and especially Victor. 1 or 2 decent episodes only.

By coincidence, Sept 13 is also a date of great significance for fans (including me) of the spousal team's 2nd tv series (after Mission Impossible), the-mid 70s British sci fi show Space: 1999 which premiered 50 years ago this month.
