When you backspace you are basically slowly updating the URL one character at a time, so it'll mess that up. After you see the card, select the URL entirely and delete it.

When you just delete the text? Are you using an app that is not the default bsky app perhaps?

This is so wonderful, but how have your photoreceptors not gone on strike yet? To work with such colors for hours must be insane. You must have permanent afterimages burned in there.

deck.blue Get the most out of Bluesky with a multi-column layout

Those are usually done with other apps like deck.blue. Each app working with the protocol might have different options on how to format things, but the standard bsky app keeps it simple.

You have to actively hit the X button on the card to remove it.

You can also delete the URL after you add it, and the link will still show up below your post as a pretty social media card image / description (as long as the linked page has that set up). That way you save on your character count, and it looks neat and clean without an ugly HTTPS/?|!\@#$

I'd love to do a proper watercolor map sometime. But so much work!

It's more about how to describe what I have than about doing more visual work, since it's for the visually impaired, so more images would not help there. I don't have the bandwidth for more illustrations either way, it's a ton of work.

Maybe I should attempt a hybrid? "Sterjall the wolf striking a pose," for example, and in the long description I can inject the information that he's anthro and has black fur. If you have any recommendations on how to simplify this format, I'm all ears (eyes).

One thing I've been debating though is how to handle characters... I can say the image is "Sterjall striking a pose"... but who is Sterjall? So instead of mentioning character names I've been using "an anthropomorphic black-furred wolf", which is wordy and gets old after doing it multiple times.

Seeing the Draw Steel format though, I can see so much room for improvement in the structure of my alt texts, on how to prioritize the information. And I also like the "15 words intro" format before the long description—that'll avoid having to write a short version for each.

Keeping a spreadsheet of descriptions has been massively helpful when reposting my images to different sites. It's also where I copy/paste from when I prep the ebooks (I do a full accessibility pass on the ebooks using Ace by Daisy), or if I need to upload the image to a print shop or wherever.

This is a great way to do accessibility. I've been keeping a spreadsheet with ALT texts for all the illustrations in the Noss Saga, usually in a longish format but sometimes with a short version as well, but I like the approach from Draw Steel and will adopt something more standard from here on.
