We simply lack the ability to judge another’s experience from the outside, but refuse to acknowledge that. In every way I’ve run into this—queer, trans, autistic, disabled lives—judging the reality of the experience from the outside of the experience is USELESS.

Boy, 2026 feels like it’s been several years long already, and, at the same time, I yearn to turn back the calendar to Dec 31—and have the crime victims back with us. But also to catch up personally on work, since life is simply too intercede-y. How’s it going in *your* writing world?

I mean, thank gawd they are. No one wants that in govt hands, but, come on, it’s exactly how you treated writers.

And the actual bona fide theft of our work—which previously had to be paid for—matters a lot. Anthropic and Open AI at least stole my work. (I was part of the Anthropic suit but I’m sure there are appeals up the wazoo.) Ripe that they’re complaining about Hegseth stealing *their* work.

My writing income over the years when it should have been rising has become depleted by at least 90% while prices rose by more than 90%. I used to be able to support myself and two kids on a writer’s income, but now I can’t come close to even supporting myself. AI obviously has made all this worse.

I just didn’t consent to having my life’s work stolen for zero dollars after spending 30 years writing it, anymore than I consented to those who raped me.

Remember how men used to say, Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? (EYE ROLL.) Well, now I’m saying why buy my books when they’ve been stolen by several AI companies and you can get them for free?
