I think the in-group here is an aspirational one. The real trick is convincing a huge percentage of the population that they're one great bet/investment, one fortuitous inheritance, one big tax break away from joining that in-group and being set for life.

Even at the high school level there aren't too many teams with totally shambolic kicking games anymore, which honestly kind of makes me sad.

I think we're starting to see the results of good instruction reaching a far wider talent pool at all levels of the game. Hawaii's very good Japanese kicker who learned purely from watching YouTube videos is still the most astonishing example of that, but I think it's happening everywhere.

Stockton made that play happen IMO. Thomas was maybe the third or fourth option there and Stockton gave himself enough time to cycle through the other ones while still having the presence of mind to find him.

My wife uses it for non-sports TV more than I use it for sports, so unless this dispute drags on for a while we're pretty much locked in. But to your point, decent antennas are also cheap these days but that doesn't mean people are actually very inclined to go buy them.

I know it's different with every conference and team, but Disney putting every big SEC game on ABC now might actually undermine their position in this part of the country.

Not sure about that in the short term. I'll just set up the old antenna and get by with watching the big ABC games along with what's on the other networks, and I suspect that others will do similar things. YTTV's UI, family sharing, and recording tools make it hard to drop in just 1 weekend.

To me I guess it just depends on pricing. My understanding is that Apple TV and F1 TV are about the same price, so it's pretty much all the same to me. I'll miss having all the main broadcasts conveniently available on YouTube TV and do think it's bad for the growth of the sport, though.

Parts of Florida are nice. Gainesville is not one of them and is not particularly close to any of them, either. UF has also been known to underspend on facilities and infrastructure, their administration is an absolute wreck, and the state government is doing its best to make it worse.

They do not have the kind of money that people think they do. None of the Florida schools have it, to be honest, and that has kind of always been the big roadblock to sustained success down there.

I don't know that either school can outbid IU, honestly. You're going to have to pay him north of $10 million a year fully guaranteed to even have a chance of pulling him out of there.
