Jacopo Camagni, thank you for being the artist that you were. For being as gay as you were. We never met, but you probably influenced the trajectory of my life more than even I know.

His work made me wanna get better and go to art school haha. I put a portfolio together and then I did go to one, and now I work in animation. I don't do much, if any, art outside of work anymore. But maybe this feeling is what I needed to finally kick myself in the butt and just make stuff...

I haven't thought about myself as a queer artist for some time now. Self-esteem issues, no creative output, just going through my day to day..
But I'm sure my younger self would be stoked to hear that I work on a kids Marvel show, am happily gay, still play games.

Then, seeing him work on Marvel and Image comics was just... So awesome. A gay artist I followed since I was a teen who drew fun and sexy gay art, drawing fanart of hot men and queens like Emma and Wanda, eventually officially drawing them for the companies themselves.

It was always so cool to see him draw fanart of stuff with his linework that I liked so much, making it always feel like his own unique style. It felt like back then, I didn't see very many openly gay artists that did sexy art of guys also doing nerdy fanart. Things are different now, thankfully.

I just found out that Jacopo Camagni passed away last week. He was an artist that was so formative to me as a gay teenager. I remember finding his art on DeviantArt and being so excited to see a guy drawing such cute and fun gay art, and being so openly nerdy too.
His art from 2005 is so nostalgic..
