This is derision. It's okay to hate cops and to acknowledge that she's done a lot of real work for the LGBT community. This smacks of misogyny.

Oh yes the most oppressed rich white families must flee for their lives! Definitely they have no obligation to the rest of Americans or to use their resources to help get us out of this mess. As a solvent white lady I am SO tired of hearing my peers tell me how frightened they are.

Someone I've been friends with for years decided to tell me out loud that my spouse is more likable than I am. I've hosted this person at multiple dinners in my home.

I totally get that everyone is afraid right now, and also -- that's their goal. When we're rooted in fear, we can't plan, we freeze up, we can't innovate or create or connect.

Sidenote, as a person with abandonment fears, hearing my friends talk about leaving the country is also scary.

I just got back from Saints and Sinners, an LGBT literary festival in New Orleans. I was honored to be able to present there on the importance of having queer books in a community. Stories bring us together and make us better as a society.

Books bans are a symptom of fascism.
That said, I don't use banned book lists as a list of what to read because I don't let fascists tell me what books should be on my nightstand.
Fascists don't know how to read.
