A snowy day somewhere mountainous, who knows where? The mountains stand without a goal or a wish. A hemlock tree, blanketed in snow, greets a driveway out of view, with a pile of shoveled snow beside it. Snow covers everything except the paved streets, and even then, little sprinkles have snuck onto the asphalt. A small plant, maybe an agave, appears to give plumage to a brick-colored mailbox standing on a wood post, dusted with snow. A couple walks down the street, one a fluffy purple bat, one a large cyan-colored bear... or maybe a hyena? The mane and ears look strange but who can tell? The bat, with green head hair, a pointy nose and fangs, and orange fluff on his body but especially his chest, ankles, and wrists, his name is Dusk. His boyfriend, Cian, embraces him from behind, tenderly holding his hand and giving a playful grip to the bat's belly while pressing against his back with his own large stomach. Cian is a large cyan bear with magenta facial hair, shimmering yellow. He has piercings on his eyebrow and ear, and wears a leather jacket open to a plain pear-green T-shirt, baggy denim jeans, and breathable tan boots. The bat, Dusk, wears an open denim jacket with a burgundy button-down, khakis, and open green shoes. Dusk holds a steaming cup of coffee with a heart logo on the front. He feels comforted and awash with joy, peace, love, and comfort despite the surrounding cold, as his grizzly beloved bear nuzzles his hair with his giant nose, giving his head a kiss, while being lifted slightly off the ground. Cian holds him, seeming almost ready to skate on the ground with his kind, brilliant bat, as he feels calm, affection, and undying love for his life partner. He holds him, taking in the moment fully, not ever wanting to let go. The bat leans his head into his chest with a wide smile and blush, feeling overcome with bliss knowing he is right where he wants to be, more than anywhere else. It isn't even JUST the ethics in a lot of these cases. It's a constant threat of stricter control/censorship and lower QoL. Think of Gumroad taking more of a cut from you if you share the """wrong""" method of access to your store page. Or YT'ers walking around eggshells avoiding demonetization.

I get that some of these are old hat examples that never materialized, but the fact that our ability to have an online presence, connect, and share with friends at all is constantly threatened by the most deranged sociopathic manchildren in the world makes me wonder why we don't "more of us" them.

It's not that I'm ready to wave the white flag and just accept all of it. It doesn't matter how much they already have I'm not gonna pump more into platforms run by fascists, shitbrains execs, AI-thumpers, and puritans.
