The privately operated Port Phillip Prison is set to close at the end of 2025. Corrections Victoria is responsible for prison management in Victoria, including administering the private prison contracts. It is led by a Commissioner.

Post-privatisation, are Victoria’s prisons actually better? Three privately managed prisons house nearly 40 per cent of Victoria’s prisoner population, but research indicates they're falling short of expectations in key areas.

That said, should be noted that those 3 house nearly 40% of all the state's prisoners. Making it the largest population of privately detained prisoners in the country.

Herald Sun have been campaigning so hard on this that a knee jerk reaction was largely inevitable.

During the qld election a certian millionaire economist who has probably never been further north than Noosa claimed the courier mail had zero impact on the qld election.

Old mate had no idea the majority of voters lived outside of Brisbane and the regional news most definitely did have an impact.
