David looks around. “Oh…this looks fun.”

“Maybe it’s time to call for chapel. Get the whole club in. See if he lies then.” I pause. “Because Billie…you are lying.”

I sigh. “Being more suspicious, Billie.”

“He’s awfully defensive and secretive for an innocent man. If he were my client…even I would be suspicious.”

I roll my eyes. “I strongly suggest you tell the truth before the angry French mob boss gets here. We’re asking nicely. He won’t. This isn’t club business. It’s family business.”

I stand up straight and punch Billie hard in the face. “Helping her into bed? No matter how drunk she was, she wouldn’t have let you into her room. And yes, Billie, I mean you in particular, you skeezy piece of shit.”+

I lean back and look at Billie. “And judging by the offhand comment my daddy made about how pissed you looked when he got to Tilly’s the other night…the second type of man is you too.”

I lean in close to Mannie and quietly say, “there are two types of men who take drunk women home. The first wants to make sure she’s in a safe place so she doesn’t get hurt. That’s Luis. The second wants to take advantage of the situation and how…agreeable people get when drunk. That’s you.” +

“Since Luis was a prick? You mean since he got in the way of you taking advantage of my very drunk best friend? Yes. Such a prick.”

I lean against the bar. “Carnival ended at midnight and you have brothers who weren’t here. So…anyone hear from Tilly last night?”

I walk over as Darien’s phone buzzes. “It’s definitely too early to be drinking.”
