8 Ways to stay warm and save money during a cold snap:
1. Run your ceiling fans clockwise at low speeds to push warm air down from the ceiling.
2. Turn on a humidifier. A humid house feels warmer at lower temps than a dry house.
3. Turn down the temperature on your water heater to save money on energy.
4. Hold off on laundry and dishes to reduce hot water use. Wash with cold water as needed.
5. Keep vents clear and clean/replace your furnace filter as needed.
6. Minimize use of vent fans, which can exhaust warm air from your house.
7. Close and lock exterior doors and windows to minimize air leaks.
8. Opens curtains/blinds during the day to let in the sun; close at night to retain heat.
