I wonder how many folks are going to end up ruined financially because their infobubble is reassuring them that the markets will be skyrocketing and prices dropping Any Day Now. Not that those of us in contact with reality will be MUCH better off.

When Things Go Missing Kathryn Schulz reflects on the sensation of loss: โ€œDisappearance reminds us to notice, transience to cherish, fragility to defend.โ€

Over a lifetime, we will lose some 200,000 items apiece, plus money, relationships, loved ones.

โ€˜The Interviewโ€™: Ed Yong Wants to Show You the Hidden Reality of the World The Pulitzer Prize-winning science writer talks about burnout from covering the pandemic and how bird-watching gave him a new sense of hope.

The most achingly beautiful explanation of what science is, from @edyong209.bsky.social: โ€œthe idea that much of the world is hidden from us, that we donโ€™t perceive it and donโ€™t understand it, and that it is worth understanding and it is necessary to understand.โ€

The thing to understand about Trump is like in his first term, he doesnโ€™t want to govern. He doesnโ€™t want to learn. He wants to campaign and look good.

Republicans know this. So there are battles going on right now to take control of the actual process of governing.

The facts are, the ACA saved millions with pre-existing conditions and set standards for care.

But now, more than a decade later, with what we now know, itโ€™s time to take the insurance companies out of the mix.
The subsidies they get are enormous. We donโ€™t need them as middlemen.

A tweet by Karen Piper (@PiperK) reads: "There it is. Trump would have been convicted of 'conspiracy to defraud the United States' and 'conspiracy to deprive citizens of voting rights' if he had not been elected to be president. The U.S. is in totally uncharted territory." Below the tweet is an excerpt from a document that discusses the Department's view that the Constitution prohibits the indictment and prosecution of a sitting President, regardless of the gravity of the crimes charged, and indicates that sufficient evidence existed to obtain a conviction at trial.

Trump sentenced without penalty in New York hush money case The "unconditional discharge" sentence comes 10 days before Donald Trump is due to be sworn in for a second nonconsecutive term in the White House.

Of course, no penalty. Why? Because we no longer have a fair justice system. We haven't had one in a long, long time just ask any minority.

The normal procedure is that that person convicted becomes required to serve any sentencing in full, and if that hampers the ability to conduct duties of office, then they be removed and the normal vacancy procedures completed by Congress.

This is a joke.

The supreme Court, department of justice and all that enable this farce will be frowned upon in history. No president should be protected from their crimes by virtue of holding or being elected to an office.
