Look at the line of cars blocking the bus only lane on Park Blvd, all waiting to turn right into the Zoo parking lot. Driver says it's like this every weekend and this backup alone is adding 20 minutes to the route.

After the bus lane opens we for past the mess and you can see that the zoo traffic really is entirely responsible for this backup

The 7 is stuck in standstill traffic waiting for the bus lane to restart. This whole line of cars is waiting to turn into the zoo parking lot

Kinda weird to need AC on a 10:00 am bus in late February, but the world is on fire and San Diego is a tropical climate now

It was already overdone and made fun of years ago! I thought we got past this horrible flipper trend! How is this still a choice anyone is making in 2026??

Hating car-dependent sprawl might be a greater motivation for my identifying as a YIMBY than loving urban development. You will never catch me defending that "homes are homes, we need more no matter where they are" BS

New #shoupista UCLA report on parking construction costs. Did you know:
πŸ‘‰ avg cost to build underground parking = $73,000 per space ( excluding land cost)
πŸ‘‰ avg cost to build aboveground parking = $52,000 per space
πŸ‘‰ For apartments, required parking adds roughly $50,000-$100,000 per unit

Keeping the buildings the same does not preserve a community.

When you make it illegal to build new housing at the high end of the market, rich people just buy up existing less-expensive housing and renovate it into luxury homes.

My local YIMBY advocacy org is literally a Dem party club lol. Party membership, partisan endorsements, fundraising and precinct walking, a capital D Democratic political group.

Property tax for Balboa Park upgrades could be headed to November ballot A proposed ballot measure would increase property taxes on city residents to pay for a long list of upgrades for Balboa Park.

There is already a property tax rider for Balboa Park that feeds the very successful Zoo millions per year. I think many would rather redirect that to fund park improvements instead of asking residents to contribute more.

It's not quite as egregious as OB, but the area from the 5 almost up to 25th Street is such a prime area for redevelopment and it's a good mix of housing from every decade up to today. Many of the denser buildings are post-1970, so by unit I would guess it's less than half historic

25.02.2026 18:50 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

fuck yeah!! makes me a lot less worried about the NIMBYs in my neighborhood that have been pushing the city to make the entire Golden Hill Slope adjacent to downtown one big historic district

whether they're covering a puppy adoption event or snow day fun, every local news reporter wears an earpiece directly connected to a shadowy CEO sitting in a smoky boardroom who can tell them to cut to commercial if anyone says anything too real that might empower viewers to question authority

people are convinced that local reporters doing man on the street interviews about the weather are all in on a corporate conspiracy to silence the truth and not just like... annoyed the guy she chose to interview is refusing to give her anything for a shareable fluff story. bordering on BlueAnon
