Fluorescent hermit #crabs - one of the species we get locally glows under ultraviolet light, like many marine animals. Whether there’s any function to this is mostly unknown still.

New sea turtle research!

NEW RESEARCH: Seamounts are a HUB for sharks!

New research on seamounts off Ascension Island has found that there are 41 TIMES the amount of sharks there than in the open ocean, despite no increase in primary productivity.

In the 20 years since the term “microplastics” was first coined, a growing body of research has consistently shown how pervasive and problematic the pollutants have become.

A recent #ScienceReview provides an overview and the progress made in understanding #microplastics.

Conger eels are something of a rarity off East Yorkshire, with only a handful of official recordings between the Wash and Middlesbrough (about 200km of coastline). Luck would have it then, when one photo-bombed a BRUV recording over an inshore wreck earlier this year. 🦑🌍 #ukunderwater
