A common error in many scientific interventions is to compare the improvement (or worsening) of a measure with a baseline measure.

But because the baseline data (Time0) is included in the Improvement data (Time1 - Time0), these two variables already share half their variance & are correlated r~-0.7

Your example reminds us that science is not only about producing results within institutions, but also about keeping curiosity, honesty, and human dignity alive beyond them

With this, you give credibility and a voice to all the scientists who left academia before they ever had the chance to be successful and who struggle deeply with the very system you describe. It takes real integrity to speak openly about it.

Thank you, Mike, for what you’ve done for science and especially for how you’re living it now. This shows the true mentality of a scientist, and I truly admire your courage in doing so.
