It's people of all ages, incomes, races, genders, whatever who look at "Cook County Board president" & either fall asleep after picking the familiar incumbent name OR simply think, "has she raised taxes recently?" and as long as the answer is no, they pick her name. People do not know what she does

So depressing how many Cook County residents are OK with Toni despite her being the reason Chicago has its terrible mayor, despite her support of Tim Evans putting everyoneโ€™s safety at risk as chief judge (until he was booted out) and despite her Tyler Technologies disaster

The Supreme Court sided with this dissent:

I keep seeing video after video of ICE agents assaulting or attempting to assault young women in New Orleans.

Why didnโ€™t I realize how horrifying the Lavinia plotline was the first time? Did I not realize at that point that Julian Fellowes is insane? Did I need The Gilded Age as a wake-up call for โ€œthis directorโ€™s plots are a terror?โ€

Currently rewatching Downton Abbey for the first time in 15 years with a friend who has never seen it, and I am genuinely horrified by the Lavinia Swire plotline. Justice for Lavinia!

The peace plan for Ukraine is a joke led by two real estate investors and Russia is currently trying to regain acceptance by the world while doubling down on blatant evil and you, a prominent Russian-American writer, are obsessing overโ€ฆISRAEL. What is wrong with you?

The Chicago Teachers Union (@ctulocal1.bsky.social) and Mayor Johnson are so hilariously Trump-y even as they try to compare all the moderate Dems who criticize them to Trump. They are so embarrassing at this point. Thank you for calling them out @ilsecofstate.bsky.social

The ICE budget needs to be front and center in House and Senate Dem ads next year

I think it was the candidate. I think AOC's great, but for NYC, and I think a more moderate D would have won this in TN. The ads and robocalls/texts Rs ran the last week were all "she's the AOC of TN".

03.12.2025 02:31 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I just don't agree with this. People really think NASHVILLE wouldn't have turned out in this election to vote for ANY Dem to send a message to Trump amid all the horrors?

03.12.2025 03:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

A different candidate (more moderate) would have done better and it needs to be OK to admit that. Nashville is going to vote against Trump in Assad margins no matter who the candidate is. What matters is who can win tough areas and moderates do that better than progs. Shouldn't be controversial take

03.12.2025 03:17 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Same here

03.12.2025 03:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Totally valid Q but I think a moderate Dem would have done just as well in Nashville. It is OK to run moderate Dems in these districts! A version of Mamdani cannot win here! People in Nashville want to vote against Trump and will show up in Assad margins no matter who the candidate is

Oh man looking at your post again and remembering the May 2020 California flip to Republicans and how shocked people were. I felt like that was a warning of "Trump isn't popular but local Dems STILL have to run blue states well, and not be perceived in suburbs as high-taxing, free-spending crazies"

Thatโ€™s the Bluesky narrative

But when has that been true?

How progressive is Conor Lamb or Travis Childers?

Holy shit I'm so stupid you guys. I didn't realize the GOP had divided up NASHVILLE. It's now represented by a Republican. Memphis is the only blue House district left in the state

Oh my fucking god I'm so out of it that I didn't realize Nashville is represented by a REPUBLICAN now

We had a chance to get rid of this old hag with Joseph Kennedy the third (a good Kennedy unlike Olivia Nuzzi's brief boyfriend) but Markey managed to persuade a bunch of stupids that he was more climate-y or some shit. SHAME on all Dem primary voters always

I was in college when Bush got re-elected & I gave up on politics for a few years after. I still voted in every election but I'm wondering if young voters now have even more of the apathy I had after the 2004 realization of "JFC there's a huge percentage of assholes in this country who WANT this"
