GOP group targets Black voters with mailer comparing Virginia redistricting to Jim Crow The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus endorsed the redistricting effort Monday and condemned the imagery in the mailer.

NEW: A GOP-tied group targeted Black Virginians with manipulative mailers on the state’s redistricting special election, claiming β€œJust like Jim Crow, [Democrats] want to silence your voice”

While it provided no detailed information on the measure, it did depict Ku Klux Klan imagery.

U.S. Supreme Court Asserts New Shadow Docket Powers Over State Courts A stay granted in a New York redistricting case expands the Supreme Court’s emergency docket to encompass countless state court rulings.

Thrilled to feature @stevevladeck.bsky.social's analysis of SCOTUS's shadow docket ruling in the NY redistricting case in @statecourtreport.org. He argues it raises significant jurisdictional issues & is a dramatic expansion of SCOTUS's power over state courts. statecourtreport.org/our-work/ana...

This has been on my list for NC-focused donations and subscriptions. Finally just did it. And you can too!

It's not a big collective ask from Billy, but in this economy, it'll take all of us. Chip in.

YouTube video by ProgressNCAction Are Our Elections Still Fair? Auditor & State Board Make Voters in North Carolina Nervous.

NC should be able to have full confidence that our elections are being handled fairly. Because of Dave Boliek's actions, not all of us do right now. The number for Boliek's office is 919-807-7500. #ncpol #election

Eden Central precinct on elections map: Sam Page 53%, Phil Berger 46%

Phil Berger didn't win a single precinct in Rockingham County, not even the one that includes his home in Eden.

Justice for the People - The Anita Earls Story From a humble orphanage to the halls of power, this modern-day civil rights hero defies the odds every time defeat appears inevitable.

I see a lot of parallels between the lives of Chambers and Earls. She’s still fighting his battles.

You can help me get her story out now, while Earls is on the ballot. She’s going to face all kinds of lies and mudslinging, and we can tell the truth. #booksky www.kickstarter.com/projects/206...

Julius Chambers Born in the hamlet of Mount Gilead, North Carolina, Julius Chambers (1936–2013) escaped the fetters of the Jim Crow South to emerge in the 1960s and 1970s ...

Chambers was an incredible person, who almost became a federal judge. He passed away in 2013. If you’re interested in civil rights history, I recommend this 2022 biography: uncpress.org/978146966930...

None of this deterred Chambers. His firm grew, and Anita Earls joined in the late 1980s. The two worked together on crucial voting rights cases. In the coming years, Earls would find herself defending the victories that Chambers had earned in the past. www.facebook.com/share/p/1H3D...

Chambers traveled the state and called on Black people to step forward and sue institutions that discriminated. While he was speaking in New Bern, his car was bombed by the Ku Klux Klan. His law office and home were also bombed.

After interning with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (LDF), Chambers established an integrated, Black-led law firm in Charlotte, β€œthe first of its kind.” The firm led LDF’s push to desegregate the South and implement the new civil rights laws.

Chambers grew up in a tiny town in Eastern NC and graduated from an under resourced, all-Black high school the same year that Brown v Board was decided. He went to NC Central, then UNC Law, 1st in the class of 1962. Go Heels 🐏

I just read a biography of Julius Chambers, a civil rights legend and a mentor for Anita Earls in North Carolina. It’s an amazing story, and I can’t believe I didn’t know it until now. 🧡 #ncpol

2024 was not the first time the North Carolina Republican Party has tried cheating to steal and overturn a major judicial election.

In 2018, they tried a different scummy move against Justice Anita Earls. A lot of folks have forgotten about it, but we haven't - and nor should you.

Re-electing Justice Earls this year is essential, and part of making that happen is ensuring that people understand just how incredible she is. Billy’s book is critical to that effort!

Mississippi’s Black voters brace for an elections ruling that could gut their power on the state Supreme CourtΒ  The U.S. Supreme Court will rule in coming months on a case that could weaken or overturn key parts of the Voting Rights Act. Upending the law could radically alter the country’s voting maps, and the change would be felt heavily in Mississippi.
