One in my ear, and one on my laptop. It's been interesting.
I remember when he was born and I had two puppies, and I couldn't tell the difference between them ๐. That was when I understood the whole tabula rasa concept. At that stage, you've got to teach them everything. Fascinating stuff.
18.07.2023 09:39 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also, call me boring but with this kid I've become the "everything is a lesson" kind of person ๐ A lesson on personal hygiene can feed into a larger lesson on compassion, respect, empathy (e.g. make sure you leave the washroom decent for the next user). It's so interesting.
18.07.2023 09:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It's different if age adds more perspective to something you were taught (and understood) as a child. But if you're sure that a child will only understand a lesson when they are older means you haven't spent enough time thinking of ways to break down, simplify and teach.
18.07.2023 09:32 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Helping raise my nephew has taught me that there's no such thing as a lesson that makes sense only in the future. If it doesn't make sense now, then you aren't teaching it right.
"You'll understand when you're older" no longer holds much weight with me.
If a human being can do all of these but have no personality, no ability to think/record memories that inform who they are, no conscious mind; all these being necessary to sentience, then are they alive?
Hmm.
I'm just a writer, man. Even doctors cannot agree on what death means. What does it mean to be alive/dead? Back in secondary school we were taught that for something to be classified as living they must be able to move, respire, sense, grow, reproduce, excrete, and feed.
06.07.2023 09:51 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm minding my business trying to work and my son, who's on vacation, pauses his colouring to ask me the deeply philosophical question:
"Are zombies alive or dead?"
Nobody:
Me: You have plants, right? Here's a gardening TikTok video I saw for you.
I've become the guy that spends the day working, and goes on TikTok in his free time. And then sends links to relatable TikToks to his friends on WhatsApp.
This is what the modern day uncle looks and feels like, I can tell.
Having more than two accounts will be overkill. How many opinions can you have? ๐คฃ

02.07.2023 12:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A similar thing happened a couple years ago with "Working With Rawlings" it was all excitement about the stuff Ahwoi revealed in the book, and then it died down and his books are still on the shelf. Chale.
22.06.2023 13:47 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0๐คฃ The optimism. In Ghana, memoir writing is seen as for the political/business elite. Hopefully this means that more people in entertainment will think of capturing their stories through books. But honestly, these things die out and the enthusiasm goes back to being dormant.

14.06.2023 00:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Today it's a local magazine I'm writing for so it's "we'll get back to you" but if I say I'm working for an international magazine the response time is quicker, and I get instant face time. It's not hard to deliver a standard for everyone. Not just those you think of as most important.
14.06.2023 00:28 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0This is even worse than the musician whose management hasn't responded to my queries and told me to "rush" them, but they'll get to me "eventually". 14.06.2023 00:24 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Tried to pin down the owners of a nightclub for an article interview and they asked me to send the questions in so they just deliver the answers. Turns out they handed the questions over to an intern who used ChatGPT to answer the questions. There's nothing quotable in there. Frustrating.
