Yeah, I block every content-scraper I come across here (and am subbed to several mutelists for them), but this one managed to slip thru and popped up in the "popular with friends" feed which is the one I usually boost stuff from. :c

Yes, it was that one. I thought the person posting it also took (and modified) the photo, so I was planning to block them, but the post was gone when I back to check, and I couldn't remember whom it was. Glad to know the photographer wasn't the one "enhancing" it!

I’m usually lucky enough to find one great horned owl a year, and I saw this one blending with branches in a scraggly forest on Sunday, buffeted by a harsh wind. I share its look of resignation – I am done with this winter, even if it isn’t done with this owl and me. #birds

Using Grammarly for the first time in forever ... WHAT?

As a non-native speaker writing primarily in English, I used to use it to check prepositions, point out too long/convoluted sentences etc.

It now offers to summon colleagues both living and dead to "expert review" the piece???

What?

I have seen a lot of cursed stuff in my time in academia but this is among the *most* cursed.
Grammarly is generating miniature LLMs based on academic work so that users can have their writing ‘reviewed’ by experts like David Abulafia, who died less than two months ago.

I hate that so many animal photographers are using Ai to "enhance" their photos, forcing us to have to scrutinize every single image before we dare share it. 😑 I'd accidentally boosted one of them; if I'd realized it was modified, I wouldn't have. (I went back to delete it, but it was already gone.)

Hey if you're a bird photographer and you're using AI to "improve" your photos (like the image on the left, that changes the color of the bird, moves the eye, erases the tail, adds extra feathers that aren't there) know it makes me lose all respect for you, for just photo quality purposes alone.

This man has made BILLIONS of dollars for corporations and now he’s wasting away penniless while they still profit. It disgusts me. We have to do what we can to help
