Custom Properties compute before they inherit ... and by registering a custom property with a certain syntax, CSS knows what to compute it to ... but if you don't register it, it can't be computed … so then you inherit the declared value.

We have a `slotted()` template directive in FAST that we use to filter and stash slotted children in an element property e.g. Tablist can only has Tab as children. Anyways, I hadn't looked into how it works (arcane magicks?) but under the hood it's just assignedNodes w/ slotchange. Neat.

Great post by @knowler.dev looking at the underused `assignedNodes()` feature of the `<slot>` element to manually assign specific elements to a specific slot.
