Last night's #Daggerheart #LivePlay session devolved into giggles as one character, to create cover for some skullduggery, invented a whole story about the Highborn PC having a "weird foot thing". 🤣

This the lack of gravity or suddenly changing gravity is an opportunity for the GM to spend fear in order to change the nature of the environment and up the drama of the encounter.
Of course these would have to be done through theatre of the mind, but that is a small price for a great encounter. 6/6
Or it could be a combat event like in the "Expanse" with Amos repairing the Rocinante in the middle of a battle (s02e02), or the Starfield side-quest "Sure Bet" where the player has to fight pirates as the gravity flickers. 5/6

Just how out of control has #ICE become in #Minneapolis? They are unlawfully stopping citizens minding and demanding the people stopped to "show their papers". The one common thread each of the people stopped had was that the people stopped were all people of color.

The rewriting and borrowing of domain cards resulted in an entire rethink of all of the domains to be less magic focused and more descriptive of Space Western tropes.
I am currently 64% of the way through, and the restructured game is now effectively playable up to level 3
6/6
In other words the domain cards all depend on the shaman character asking the intelligent technologies in the area to intercede on their behalf. So they are not teleporting themselves from point A to point B, an AI with powerful technology is moving them like a Star Trek transporter.
5/6
For example, the Sage domain card "Vicious Entangle" is great for a fantasy game with druids, but it doesn't work as well for the story line that I have of shamans who commune with intelligent technology. This lead to a refactoring of the domain where each "spell" came from a "third party"
4/6
And some of the domain cards just don't work in the technological framing that I am trying to create. Once I modified one domain and the classes attached to it, it was like knocking over dominos... leading to what I am now calling a restructuring of the base classes and domains.
3/6
So I am doing more than reskinning, I have taken the classes and domains and using them as guides to create new ones that are more comfortable in the framing of a Science-Fiction setting.
It is not spell casting, it is using technology. It is not magic damage, it is energy damage
2/6
More thoughts on my #daggerheart project. Reskinning vs Restructuring.
The book talks about re-skinning the classes and domains to fit into your own campaign; and that works, as long as your campaign is fantasy heavy. But as I started re-skinning for my Space Western, things broke down

It depends. The adversary that the PC's ship is matching up against can be almost anything.
I am describing a narrative structure for making a space battle interesting for all of the players instead of just the person piloting the ship.
And success or defeat doesn't have to mean destruction. A space combat event could lead into a boarding action scene, a social scene as one side attempts to surrender, or one PC performing a death move to sacrifice one life for the good of the many.
4/4
In this all of the players can take part. Using their experiences, ideas, and abilities to achieve the goal of the encounter; while the GM uses the Actions, Reactions, and Fear to narrate the actions of the adversary space ships.
3/4
The space battle is not a combat encounter, it is an event where the heroes must work together to succeed.
This can be abstracted as a set of countdowns that represent the distance between the combatants (like a chase), the health of the combatants (d10: 1 heroes disabled, 10 the adversaries)
2/4
more thinking on my #daggerheart project. Making space encounters interesting.
One of the common tropes of Space Westerns is the space battle but in RPGs they become boring table top strategy games that do not engage everybody at the table.
My solution is to treat them like environments

As long as it fits narratively there could be a class of characters that carry around sci-fi Leathermans, that are difficult to use but infinitely configurable with sufficient experience. Which in a fantasy setting would be like a magic wand specialist.
5/5
So a character can have a sci-fi Leatherman that they only understand how to use one way (Nice pliers). But as they advance they learn how to use it for a multitude of functions that they never understood before (OMG, it can open bottles too?!?)
4/5
Most importantly is not if the technology can be explained scientifically, as long as it fits narratively and is internally consistent (like most fantasy magics).
It doesn't even have to be "explained" how it breaks our laws of thermodynamics. As long as it doesn't break the narrative.
3/5
This can be a little awkward at times, as not all magical effects translate well to being explained by a technology. Ex: summonings and conjurations.
But with a little creativity even can be explained away by something like the Star Trek transporter/replicator.
