This was the last shot I took during my session with Sandrah. I love that a woman in her 40s decided to start jumping on the bed. I snapped it, looked at it (since you never know what you'll get in energetic poses), and said "Yup, that's the one."

I'd absolutely have this album (the non-remix) if this was a quarter century ago, and you could reliably go into a record store and buy a new release. I had to special order Bright Magic. And The Race For Space. As it is, I haven't even heard it.

In the edit, I kept pushing toward an ethereal look, making Meghan and Astrid feel ever more celestial, but also evoking the blinding light of opening one's eyes to an over-bright scene. Those notions combined into the idea of an afterlife scenario. "I Awakened To The Welcoming Angels" was my title.

This wasn't planned in any way, and there was no concept beyond 'hey these mirrors in the ground are kind of neat.' So, in the moment, it was just experimenting; no story, nothing being explicitly expressed. While editing, though, it kind of struck me as looking upward from an open grave.

Sometimes I hate the character count, because I like to give more context, mostly for my own amusement, and between credits and hashtags, I had to even truncate the title to fit the post. So I shall do so in a short thread instead. Read on if you enjoy the demystification of the artistic progress.

I wouldn't generally crop my model's head out of a shot, as I have here with @ayeonnagabrielle.com, but I was focused on the interplay of water and skin. I liked this one best, but her eyes were awkwardly mid-blink. This, then, is the compromise.

I've been playing with light overlays this summer, and while the in-camera version of was sensibly exposed, I wanted that bleached-out feel of a summer heathaze. Still new to this kind of editing, but think it came out pretty well.

Put me down for 1, with an assist from 2. (Or 3? However you'd number the top pair.)

An untitled shot from my early-July session with Kim Jay, the second time I’ve gotten to work with her. Her tats were never going to completely integrate with the historical environment, even in a cottagecore dress. So it was mostly just the fun of trangressing.

Actually gave this a couple of spins today. Musically, harmonically, I enjoyed it. Was not able to pay much attention to lyrics (I was driving), but seems like the kind of thing that smart, thoughtful lyrics could push over the edge to a strong album, while lame ones could sink it in my estimation.

New one on me. Sounds intriguing.

Big OB fan. A little odd to me as a starting point, though. Only A Lad or Good For Your Soul would be my recommendations. Or Dead Man’s Party for the popular tracks.

A b-side from this era called “The Sea Is Wide” is worth hunting down, in my opinion.

I’ve only got Different Class from them, but I did preview a couple of tracks from this and thought they were alright. In general, do you welcome new music from bands that went dormant 10 or more years prior? Seems to be happening more and more. I feel it screws up history a bit, even if it’s good.

Definitely under my radar. Sounds intriguing.

Love Nick Heyward, but I don't know that I thought this was 19-year-gap-between-records good. I did get a special limited edition with bonus tracks that bolstered it a bit, but I can't help but compare it unfavorably to From Monday To Sunday and Tangled, which are amongst my favorite albums.

The setting appears as a junkyard, as the grill of a large American car can also be seen, as well as car parts and the broadside of an RV or camper van behind her, speckled with dirt and fungus, with the whole scene threatening to be overtaken by vines growing from all angles.

By its nature, a location like this is visually busy, and you go there specifically to capture some of the flavor of it. That competes with compositional simplicity, and it's tough to find the right level of visual clutter. I think we did okay.

This band never made any headway in the US. I play a musical connection game with my brother (who owns this and other BC records, but I’d never heard of them), and I connected it as a #1 UK album that failed to chart at all in the US—to Blur’s Parklife, which shared the same dubious achievement.
