Digital illustration shows snacks and a purple whale floating on top of a block coloured background. There are musical notes in the top left hand corner and small yellow stars sprinkled throughout.
I was too slow for #BluePit π but sharing this little doodle* I made on Procreate for my hopepunk #SF #MG verse novel Space Whale Songs anyhow. #amquerying

People didnβt βused to be fineβ without air conditioning during heat waves in the U.S. - a lot more people *just died*.
According to this study, air conditioning has cut heat deaths in the U.S. by around 80% since 1960.

11yo: a lot of kids at my school have internalised homophobia. And lots of racism.
Me: itβs nearly 11pm and youβre meant to be sleeping. We canβt solve homophobia and racism at 11pm on a school night.
11yo: yes we can, Iβve had sugar.
Nothing could have prepared me to parent this kid. π

Today I am in Geelong graduating from my Honours in Creative Writing at @deakinuniversity
My baby thesis over the last year explored hope in the face of climate crisis through a science fiction novel-in-verse for children aged 9-12.

28.05.2025 13:44 β π 30 π 5 π¬ 1 π 0Are you open to a verse novel query? It's MG, and the word count (because it's verse) is lower than what Query Manager will accept so my direct query attempt won't go through. :) Space Whale Songs (and other tasty snacks) is a queer sci fi novel-in-verse for readers aged 8-12.
24.05.2025 12:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0With adult hindsight, it has occurred to me that people flirted with me in my teens and twenties and I didn't notice/didn't realise.
I was not aware, sorry I fumbled it.
It wasn't you, it was me. π
