Happy it went into the Valle del Above then ๐๐ผ And certainly worth a mention as the longest recorded at Etna ๐

10.10.2025 22:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hi Boris, do you have an idea of the length of the June 2 PDC? Longer than the 3km of 2014? Asking for a big paper revision ๐
10.10.2025 09:14 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Hard to imagine indeed! We're doing some work on Austurhorn now so yes, happy to have a chat, will dm ๐๐ผ
24.09.2025 19:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I have trouble seeing how these felsic veins and dykes at Austurhorn #Icelqnd could have come in by pyroclastic processes and not flow of a fluid magma at 2-3km depth?
Any papers to suggest @fabianwadsworth.bsky.social @htuffen.bsky.social or others working on tuffisite veins et al?
...and then we went on to Reyรฐarรกrtindur pluton, with it's roof contact showing hot interactions between granite and basalt in the roofs, even with a conduit and faults in the roof!
All described by Emma Rhodes et al in www.nature.com/articles/s41...
The second day the Tertiary Slaufrudalur pluton revealed itself magnificently (low โ๏ธ are regular here...), an example of a shallow granitic #magma pluton with roof contacts beautifully exposed for geologists ready to scramble upslope ๐คฉ
14.09.2025 08:37 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The #LASI7 post-conf fieldtrip in SE #Iceland was a blast!
On day 1 Gudmundur Omar took us into the heart of #Geitafell, once a central #volcano.
We saw the gabbro intrusion that once sat at 2-3 km depth, and the most impressive sheet intrusion complex above that once fed #lava flows!
And with that, the main conference of #LASI7 is over and disappears in our foggy rearview mirrors of time! It was an honor to host all of you VIPS in #Iceland!
See you in a few years in..?
Oh yes ๐คญ

05.09.2025 07:04 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0How does lava sound when it comes to the surface of the Earth? Listen to a lava flow oozing out of its effusive vent high on the southwestern side of #Etna, 28 August 2025. That day no visits by tourists were allowed on the site, which permitted this (relatively) clean recording

It is a well-proven #fact:
Earth's #climate is changing, and that change is human-made.

Visited the inspiring George Walker museum in Breiddalsvik in #Iceland last week, saw one of my most inspiring collaborators & friend @claireharnett.bsky.social win the @iavcei.bsky.social Walker award yesterday. What a boost, congrats Claire! ๐คฉ๐

The Polish work is still in prep, but has amazing outcrops indeed!
And our #IAVCEI2025 session on planetary volcanism has kicked off with exciting detections of recent volcanism on #Venus by Davide Sulcanese!
