It has been the honor of my life to serve as Commissioner of BLS alongside the many dedicated civil servants tasked with measuring a vast and dynamic economy. It is vital and important work and I thank them for their service to this nation.

Trump, Claiming Weak Jobs Numbers Were βRigged,β Fires Labor Official
For months, people have been asking me whether I still trusted govβt data. My answer was always the same: The stats agencies faced longstanding challenges, some of which Trump was making worse. But there was no sign of political meddling.
I canβt say that anymore.

Mary's piece is beautiful and true. As an aside, my first two jobs as a journalist were in public radio. Both were new projects, experiments supported by the CPB. Public radio takes risks, and trains the people who move on to other newsrooms.

Once considered a safe investment, U.S. Treasuries now feel shakier
For decades, U.S. Treasuries have been among the safest investments. But in recent months, trust in U.S. Treasuries has felt shakier.
βItβs kind of invisible, like when you set down a bowl and you can hear it crack but you canβt see it yet.β
