I'm supposed to be part of this IDEAS taping in Charlottetown on March 26 as part of their series looking at Canadian democracy.
The goal is to talk about electoral reform in a province which has considered this multiple times. Looking forward to it. You can book your tickets now.

U.S. weather agency cuts will be felt in Canada β especially in hurricane season | CBC News
Meteorologists and scientists in Atlantic Canada are concerned about cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, saying they rely on the U.S. agency's data and expertise.
A meteorologist who made a life-saving call to a Newfoundland mayor urging him to evacuate residents from the path of post-tropical storm Fiona in 2022 says cuts to weather services in the United States could have impacts in hurricane-prone Atlantic Canada.

Yesterday I emailed Toys R Us for confirmation their store in Charlottetown is closing (one of 8 stories I chased from our radio news desk).
Today I got this: "Hi Kerry,
Thank you for reaching out. I have confirmed that ToysβRβUs will not be sharing a statement for the story."

The PCs haven't announced a date for their convention.
#PEI is in the odd situation of having interim leaders in place for all three parties in the house.
At this point the Greens will be first to choose a permanent leader. Their convention is June 7, bumped ahead from an initial date of May 2026.

Cory Deagle quits P.E.I. cabinet to become 1st candidate for Progressive Conservative leadership | CBC News
A Prince Edward Island cabinet minister has become the first person to say he is running for the leadership of the provincial Progressive Conservative Party.
This didn't take long.
Newly-minted premier Rob Lantz already needs a new education minister (he said he was planning to appoint someone to replace himself). Now, amid tariff threats, his cabinet needs a new minister of economic development, innovation & trade. #peipoli

Fake CBC ads have flooded X with sketchy headlines. We looked for the source | CBC News
X users have been subjected to a flood of ads that feature fake CBC headlines, leading to fake CBC-style articles. In the end, itβs part of an international investment scheme.
There are PEI versions of this making the rounds. Someone just called me asking if I interviewed Premier Lantz (yes) & if the topic was investment opportunities / crypto (definitely not).
People have lost 10s of 1000s. Make sure your loved ones know.

This is what most of the US population who are eagerly voting for Trump see.
They donβt see that Canada and Mexico were already doing this. They donβt see Fentanyl is a non-issue at the Can/US border.
They see Trump Wins.

Islanders weigh in on Canada-U.S. tariff tiff
Many people across the country are closely watching the tariff tensions between Canada and the United States. CBC's Connor Lamont went to Royalty Crossing mall in Charlottetown to find out how shopper...
CBC spoke to some #PEI shoppers today about the trade war and the impact tariffs could have on the local economy and on them.
If there's one theme that sticks out: it's going to be hard to sell US products to a segment of the Canadian market, tariffs or no tariffs.

I think I can let the experts handle potatoes but I'll plant other veg & more herbs this year.

MLAs given copy of P.E.I. internet contract β minus some details | CBC News
A dozen MLAs were provided copies of a controversial contract between Bell Aliant and the P.E.I. government at a legislative committee meeting Thursday morning.
It was the PCs who proposed prior to the 2019 election that committee membership be changed to take the majority away from government. That was based on frustration from years in Opposition, trying to get, for example, a copy of the Liberal government's contract with Bell: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Another c'tee wants more NHL records. Last week the chair of that c'tee was called out for trying to redirect documents from the c'tee to himself, saying it was his right as chair to decide if they became public. The clerk of the legislature told him that's not within his limited scope of power.

The PCs have been trying to find ways to delay or stop this, in some cases citing the province's freedom of information law. But FOIPP does not apply in this case -- both the clerk of the legislature and the privacy commissioner made that clear last week. #peipoli
