NY Supreme Court Rules the State Must Issue Climate Regulations New York is violating the state’s climate law and must issue regulations to reduce climate pollution by February 2026

Victory! In a landmark decision, the NY Supreme Court ruled in favor of our clients and ordered the State to put forward regulations to reduce climate emissions by February 2026.

The Court:
– confirmed Article 8 applies before harm occurs;
– required EIAs to include scope 3 (combustion) emissions;
– upheld Norway’s staged system (EIA at PDO stage) → no violation.

In short: #KlimaSeniorinnen defined the duty to act.
#GreenpeaceNordic defines how States must act.

Breaking: the @echr.coe.int just ruled in @greenpeace.de Nordic v. Norway — the first procedural #ClimateRights decision.

States must now run science-based, timely, comprehensive EIAs before approving fossil projects ⚖️🌍

Lliuya, a Peruvian farmer and mountain guide, argues that Europe’s biggest emitter should pay its share of damages for the glacier melt threatening his home. In 2022, German judges even traveled to Peru to assess the risk—a rare step in climate litigation.
