Think about the UK’s reputation abroad. Lack of safe routes for refugees, migrants unwelcome, calamity of Brexit, inaction in Palestine (bearing in mind Balfour Declaration) and pensioners being arrested. It’s so sad and the legacy of empire doesn’t help. (Criticism is highest form of patriotism)

The BBC has apologised for referencing Jenrick’s “backward country” comments as xenophobic. But many will say when you’re discussing non white majority countries, language matters. The use of backward is steeped in colonialism and the empire. Racist undertones are almost a guarantee so why use them?
