BOO! πŸ‘»πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

No costume for Halloween? No problem. Channel your inner sea urchin: go into your closet (or sunken treasure chest), and throw on all the outfits at once! A few clams, some snails, and carnivorous sponges for drama ought to help keep your fellow partiers in high spirits.

Trevesia burckii produces otherworldly leaves the shape of snowflakes. This formation may be an adaptation to help sunlight filter down to lower leaves, helping the plant photosynthesize in shaded forests.

Red beard orchid (Calochilus paludosus) near Genoa, East Gippsland, VIC. Good numbers out in open grassland this year at this location - with flowers starting to open on a warm morning. A relatively uniform species across a wide range in Australia (and New Zealand). #Orchids #OzPlants #Biodiversity

Close up of a yellow wildflower with red spots.

From Wikipedia:
An annual species, 2 to 10 cm tall, bearing 1 to 20 yellow flowers. The flower is typically 0.5 to 1 inch wide, yellow with yellow hairs and tiny red dots on the palate and a large red dot on the lower limb.[2] In small plants, the flower is often larger than the leaves and stem.

Sereno Watson first described this species as "A pretty dwarf flower of earliest spring, forming bright patches of color among the sage-brush in the lower valleys, the delicate inch-long stem seeming scarce able to sustain the absurdly disproportionate flowers that terminate it. Carson Valley, Nevada; April."

Waxcap 14 - Pale Waxcap (Cuphophyllus berkleyi / C. pratensis var pallida). Switches between full species and a var but it's a clearly distinct taxon worth recording separately. A largish Cuphophyllus with decurrent gills. Lacking the apricot tones of Meadow and the cap has a very chalky texture.
