For those who understand Turkish, I highly recommend this programme with Berk Esen. Drawing on the latest developments in 🇹🇷, particularly Fidan's statements following Erdogan's visit to the 🇺🇸, he explains that the major conflict within the ruling bloc concerns how the post-Erdogan era will be shaped

I am a university professor. I write and teach about democratic erosion and autocratisation. So when such processes happen in my country, I cannot remain silent. I owe that to my students and my profession. Hopefully I'll be around in future to continue to comment on and analyse what is going on. But we'll see. A lot of people have made enormous sacrifices in this country, far more than me. A lot of people have made sacrifices for more rights and democratisation efforts elsewhere. Now it's my turn and it's the turn of many other people who are currently protesting. I am taking a lot of risks but hopefully they will have positive results.

I'm a citizen of this country. I'm deeply committed to the Republican, secular tradition of this country and would like to see my country become democratic again. I find normative and political value in this fight. When I say "fight", I'm not a politician and I'm not organising people on the street. So in that sense, I'm not leading a political fight. I'm an academic. So my fight is to get the word out, describe what is currently happening in Turkey, in Turkish and English as much as possible, and academically analyse and interpret where the events are headed. If anyone follows me, I want to make some policy and strategy suggestions for opposition activists, politicians and people who are on the street.
