My dad passed away this week. It was sudden and unexpected. It feels like the world should stop to allow you to grieve but it doesnβt. I still need to work, take care of my cats, my house and somehow myself. Today is his birthday so I will celebrate with a blizzard from DQ- his all time favorite

The dangers of leaving soccer or other nets up when not in use. Animals can become tangled in the nets often with fatal consequences. Halloween decorations (fake webs) can be deadly for wildlife too!
This coyote pup is ok but will need to stay in care for several days for observation

Elf owls are one of the smallest species of owl in the world. These tiny guys can fit in your fist but have a lot of attitude.
You can age owls using a black light and seeing how their feathers fluoresce so we were able to age this owl as a yearling.

The colors are more vibrant in the photos but you could still see all the colors and movement with the naked eye. It was incredible

Earlier this year we ended up with two orphaned coati. One had a tooth abscess and needed treatment, so were not able to be reunited. They rarely come into care so it was a gift to get to work with these cuties. They went to another center with other babies to learn wild skills before release

Baby Jackrabbits differ from desert cottontails in many ways. Jackrabbits are hares and are born fully furred with eyes and ears open and ready to go. Newborns look like juvenile cottontails. Even though they are precocial they still rely on mom for milk and protection for several months.

Life feels darker and harder than it ever has before. Take the time out to notice how beautiful the world is around you. Sometimes it feels like a monumental effort to get out of the door, but itβs always worth it. Take care of yourselves

Our juvenile canyon bats needed a little encouragement to fly but once they got going they instantly met up with other bats and we even saw them successfully catch some bugs. Tucson sunset made for a beautiful backdrop for this release

I didnβt get the best picture of this Lesser Long-nose Bat but I was so excited to work with this species! The majority of bats in the area are insectivores but this guy feeds off nectar from agave and cactus flowers. (Yay Tequila) Luckily his injuries were mild and he was able to be released!

Make sure you check your brush piles before burning- especially if the piles have been sitting out for a long time. Wildlife use them as nest sites. This baby raccoon came in with mild burns and smoke damage to his lungs. His siblings were not as fortunate. He recovered and was released with friends

Lots of big life changes happened and Iβm still adjusting. New center where I can work with more wildlife and hopefully make more of an impact. Job came with more drama than I was expecting and itβs been difficult to navigate. But I love Tucson and the diversity of species here is incredible!

First rattlesnake relocation of the season! Rattlesnakes do not want to harm humans and really just want to be left alone. They will strike to defend themselves but often try to conserve their venom that they need for hunting. If you see one just give it some space. They deserve to live too

Donβt DIY wildlife! If you find injured or orphaned wildlife, get them into a wildlife rehabilitation center asap and do not feed it! This baby has metabolic bone disease and was emaciated as most of the food is on his feathers. We have training on diet and feeding techniques please use us!!

This babyβs mom was killed by rodenticides. The lady put it out because she βhates snakes and rodents attract themβ. Rodenticides are a horrible way to die and affects animals all the way up the food chain including dogs and cats. There are so many better alternatives. Please donβt use poison!!

What is going on in this country is beyond scary. Every day brings fresh news that is horrifying. I am looking for ways to fight back. No spending on Feb 28. Looking at organizing a womenβs March on March 8. Not supporting big business. What else can I do? How can I find where protests are happening

We were able to release our great horned owl who came in last year after being hit by a car. He had traumatic brain injury and needed time to recover. Before he left he was navigating well and finding food on his own. Such a huge difference from when he came in and could barely stand! Good luck bud!
