I use it in talks because it's pretty and also because, as an audience member, I am perpetually squinting at people's slides

So it’s a hard problem, and honestly I wonder about this question a LOT. Sorry for the extra long reply!! My last comment on the topic is even tho I want companies to give back, I appreciate having community support, bc the community is who I want to be accountable to<3, if that makes sense (end!)

Another factor is that the way the PSF is set up, we’re independent—a company making a donation doesn’t give them a vote on how we run or on the direction of the language. Other types of foundations work differently, so companies “get more” for their investment. (cont'd)

But on the flip side, everyone benefits if there’s investment in Python, to make it more secure, sustainable, accessible, innovative, thriving. (cont'd)

It’s true tho that not all companies that benefit from Python support us, & also that the level of sponsorship we get is small in comparison to the economic value Python provides - I’d say the short answer is “Tragedy of the commons”, Python will be available whether any given company funds or not…
