I use it in talks because it's pretty and also because, as an audience member, I am perpetually squinting at people's slides
So itβs a hard problem, and honestly I wonder about this question a LOT. Sorry for the extra long reply!! My last comment on the topic is even tho I want companies to give back, I appreciate having community support, bc the community is who I want to be accountable to<3, if that makes sense (end!)
17.11.2025 20:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another factor is that the way the PSF is set up, weβre independentβa company making a donation doesnβt give them a vote on how we run or on the direction of the language. Other types of foundations work differently, so companies βget moreβ for their investment. (cont'd)
17.11.2025 20:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But on the flip side, everyone benefits if thereβs investment in Python, to make it more secure, sustainable, accessible, innovative, thriving. (cont'd)
17.11.2025 20:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs true tho that not all companies that benefit from Python support us, & also that the level of sponsorship we get is small in comparison to the economic value Python provides - Iβd say the short answer is βTragedy of the commonsβ, Python will be available whether any given company funds or notβ¦
17.11.2025 20:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Credit where credit's due, Google and many other companies do sponsor us: www.python.org/psf/sponsors/
That's usually thanks to individuals advocating for us to their employer, and I am super grateful for the support (cont'd)
