#ReadAcrossAmericaDay – originally started in 1998 as a way to encourage children to read – helps set kids across California on the pathway to literacy, beginning with story time in the classroom. What book will you read? What was your favorite book as a child?

Today, on Japanese Internment Day of β€―Remembrance, I want to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. A unit formed nearly entirely of Nisei, second-generation Japanese Americans from Hawaii and internment camps across the mainland.

While crews reduce fuels on the landscape, Californians can take action at home:
β€’ Prepare a family evacuation plan
β€’ Maintain defensible space around your home
β€’ Harden your home against embers

Reducing wildfire risk takes action at every level.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, whose life and leadership shaped our nation’s ongoing journey toward equality. He was a voice for the voiceless, an advocate for those too often left out, and a servant to the oppressed worldwide.

100 years of Black history reminds us that courage knows no age. Ruby Bridges was just 6 when she walked into an all-white public school as adults yelled and protested. Her bravery helped integrate public education and change history. Proof that courage lives in all of us. #BlackHistory #100Years

Today on Rosa Parks’ birthday, we honor her lasting legacy as her courageous act resulted in the desegregation of buses.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was riding in a segregated bus, where she refused to give up her seat for a white passenger.
