Trump's explanations aren't even plausible. He believes the bigger the lie, the more likely you will believe it.

It’s only fair that Trump should be allowed to choose Iran’s next leader. Russia got to pick ours.

Bari Weiss' partner has, uh, thoughts about the Iran War. Come for the glibness and stay for the final jab at Minneapolis.

Totally unsurprising. Historically, air bombing campaigns do not result in regime change. If anything, it results in greater social cohesion as a result of shared trauma, leading people to unify in opposition to the enemy who bombs them (particularly true if you target bombs on schoolchildren).

Helluva way for the president to refer to dead soldiers β€” soldiers killed in a war he started.

This is Tejano star and Latin Grammy winner, Bobby Pulido, our Dem nominee for TX15 πŸͺ…, speaking out against the ICE horrors that have befallen these mariachi students, and the hypocrisy of MAGA Rep. Monica De La Cruz.

Thank you, Bobby and Rep. Castro, for bringing attention to these kids.

The statement by the archbishop of Chicago is eloquent. Pointing to the WH video "Justice the American Way," he writes: "Journalists now use the term 'gamifying' the war to describe this dynamic. What a profound moral failure, for gamifying strips away the humanity of real people."

Good summary of the one-day not guilty verdict for DOJ's prosecution of an alleged attempt to point a laser--a cat toy-- at Trump's helicopter. Nice to see good work by the public defender. Part of the defense' summation:

Movies That Matter: Fritz Lang's M (1931)
YouTube video by The A.V. Club Movies That Matter: Fritz Lang's M (1931)

I'm no expert on Lang, but I doubt it was his best film. I was blown away by "M" which he directed in Germany. A police procedural in a way, but amazing to think it was produced in 1931--directed as one of the earliest films with sound. A review below.

Remember when Richard Clark, the counter terrorism coordinator, said his hair was on fire the summer leading up to 9/11? But Bush ignored his warnings. For Trump, his own personal image is more important than protecting the American people. So, he wants to keep law enforcement in the dark.

It’s about time someone said it out loud on a national news show.

Major Gen. Paul Eaton (ret.) β€” on Trump’s interest in putting boots on the ground:

β€œWe have a situation where someone called a malignant narcissist is unfortunately drifting into a state of dementia that is difficult to manage.”

The US striking an Iranian desalination plant on Qeshm Island could mark a disastrous precedent. The Gulf is highly reliant on desalination to meet its water needs. If Iran retaliates against plants in the region, water shortages could become catastrophic.

Polymarket quietly pulls nuclear detonation prediction market after it draws nearly $850K in bets "This is worse than any dystopia we could've imagined."

I just noticed that Polymarket quietly took down the nuclear detonation bet after $850,000 in bets were made. The probability for "before 2027" was 22%, according to bettors.

The Big Heat (1953) - Trailer - Fritz Lang
YouTube video by Jeffrey M. Anderson The Big Heat (1953) - Trailer - Fritz Lang

OK, I'll admit it; I'm old. The best film from my year of birth was "The Big Heat." It's considered a classic film noir. I think I saw it for the first time on TCM a year or so ago. Very dark film noir. Fritz Lang was the director.

Donald Trump trying to micromanage Iran war strategy is like Adolf Hitler trying to micromanage the eastern front strategy--except worse because Trump is very dumb but thinks he is the most brilliant strategist on earth.

Can't wait until the White House tells MAGA that everybody needs to car pool and quit driving trucks. The Ag secretary already told us we can afford a meal of 1 piece of chicken, a tortilla, and "something else." RFJ Jr. said we can afford to eat liver for our meal. They're good at workshopping.

Bill Clinton gets emotional when talking about his friendship with Rev. Jesse Jackson at the memorial service:

"I'm here more as a friend than a former president. He was my friend when I needed it. And I ask you to ask yourself how you can do more by being a better friend and a more effective one."
