I am floored to learn McKinley's Presidency is defined by the way he wielded tariffs for bolstering US industry
He must be influential on how modern Repubs think, which has me whipping through this book...

A rat done bit my sister Nell.

Her face and arms began to swell.

I can't pay no doctor bill.

Ten years from now I'll be paying still.

Starting a biography of William McKinley tomorrow.
I know nothing of this dude, except that he had some scandals, was the top choice for business folks, and that he got shot, leading to Teddy Roosevelt's Presidency.

i think you invented chaos equity
i love that he is cautious about where to use it, but he goes huge in those places
to me, that is wisdom
i found this post very reasonable though

oh sure Ive read this post. i can appreciate the sentiment, but didnt appreciate how dismissive this post was.
for AI coding, and AI in general, is that it elevates less experienced folks a lot more than very experienced folks, so the most enthusiastic tend to be less qualified to educate
and great point about social proof
01.08.2025 16:17 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0exactly! we are technologists. we notoriously get confused by why others dont see the world as we do. but how to use AI isnt at all clear to nontechnologists.
01.08.2025 16:14 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0For example, every Friday I meet with historians to discuss how modern events relate to what's happened in the past. AI comes up from time to time and is perceived as a replacement for them, which breaks their brains because of how often it makes mistakes.
Is that their fault or the AI industry's?
Important to consider that change like this is rarely very fast. Almost all tech revolutions move slowly because people need time to understand them and figure out how to use them.
People arent just resisting. They also arent sure how to use it, which isnt really their fault.
loved this line in the latest foundation:
do robots dream of wiping their own asses?
Internalizing that was monumental for me. Especially when combined with learning to judge historical figures in the context of the world they lived in, not the world we live in.

Great post from @orta.io on the way he uses AI to speed up his coding!
The key thing is to understand he uses it as a partner and evaluates everything it does while it energetically whips through things he usually doesnt have enough time to do
Huge benefit for him!

to me, ML is when someone knows how the models work and AI is when they dont
yes, this is ridiculous, but adopt this view and watch your life get easier
it can be fun, but it leads to misunderstandings as the analogy gets streched
