I don’t not want to see federally administered elections, but I do support enacting some national standards under law to get rid of some of these inequities. Election Day actually needs to be a national holiday with paid leave as well.

We saw that fuckery on display in Dallas this week. My blood boiled as I heard the updates coming out of Texas. What a screw-job the GOP pulled on us!

It’s *absolutely* valid to criticize how the system currently works, while still trying to use it to put into power better advocates for our interests.

It may be because a lot white Marxist & anarchist types who are “very online” really do advocate for non-participation because of their dismay with the system as it is. They belittle voting as “electoralism” & paint people who advocate for it as naive dupes. I see them as counterproductive trolls.

I think a lot of the people pissed off at non voters aren’t so much picturing black folks (who tend to vote in higher percentages despite all the hurdles thrown in their way!). They are picturing the millions of white and other non-black eligible voters who never bother to register & dismiss voting.

Lawrence can be kind of high on his own supply with some of his takes, but he was SPOT ON with this one. It’s absolutely despicable how Trump is wasting the lives of loyal American servicemembers for a war that didn’t need to happen.

We already knew Trump was worse than Dubya Bush, but he persists.

I will acknowledge the part the neolib establishment played In paving the road to this hell, but I truly believe most of them did what they did out of mistaken faith in “the power of free markets to feed people.” They actually thought globalization would bring freer (but still capitalist) societies.

I feel like it was a GOP play to divide Democrats between now and November. We can’t fall for their shit! Paxton is the villain there, not Talarico!

The Fuckery in the Dallas area last night showed how vital it is for everyone voting to not only do a deep dive on all the up-to-the-minute rule changes & other details of their local voting, but to vote as early as possible to stay ahead of the GOP tricks they are going to pull. Eternal vigilance!

I think there are some districts where someone who speaks like a moderate but votes like a progressive may be the best option. Talarico in Texas is an example of that. I wanted Crockett to win, but I worried that her approach might not work come November. It’s all about knowing your constituency.

Everybody who cares about preserving our freedom needs to be getting organized in their local communities right now. Connect with mutual aid and civil defense groups. Get ready for all contingencies. Don’t be caught disorganized like the Iranians seem to be if/when an opportunity is presented to us.

I thought both candidates had a lot of strengths, & tho I prefer Crockett’s attitude and style as a give-no-fucks fighter, I do think Talarico’s “vanilla Christian who can reach across the aisle” vibe might serve him well in Nov.

I had concerns that Jasmine couldn’t win in November because it seems like a lot of culturally conservative Latinos were having trouble warming up to her. If she had won the primary, I’m sure Talarico would’ve done what he could to use his connections there to boost Crockett.

She wasn’t even trying to appeal to any disaffected Republicans. I felt like that was an unrealistic strategy for a state like TX because it’s a lot easier to get a disillusioned right-of center-person who has a history of voting to vote for you than one of these mugwumps who never bothers to vote.

The people saying “she’ll be back and do great things“ are prob people who already supported her. There were lots of votes for her last night, but the fact is her whole theory of winning depended on not just motivating every single Dem in the state to support her, but new disinclined voters as well.

Not all of these Christians are Christofascist psychos. The psychos may be the majority in the US these days, but there are still millions of actual Christians out there who try to follow the teachings of Christ and are very progressive & egalitarian. Hell, I know a lesbian Episcopalian pastor!
