Maybe there are no throwaway gags. Maybe all art matters to someone, somewhere. Maybe we can't ever understand how we touch others' lives.

And I think about that one throwaway gag a lot. Probably weekly. As I get older, it seems more and more true. Both the principals, and the difficulty of holding their tension.

Anyway, there was this one throwaway gag where somebody's ship is spiraling into the sun and the character is struggling with the controls and deciding whether to ditch out, and in the narrative there's this aside about how life is a constant negotiation between two competing principals:
