Agency officials said they had discovered the “critical failure of some original bridge components from the 1960s.” Dec. 13, 2023 | Day 3 RIDOT released the most recent inspection report of the Washington Bridge, which was completed that summer. dec. 14, 2023 | Day 4 RIDOT Director Peter Alviti told reporters during a news conference that he believed an abnormally heavy load crossing the bridge snapped the anchor rods and weakened the overall structure.

It's been one year since the westbound Washington Bridge was closed to traffic.
