05.12.2025 19:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Brutal day for film exhibition. Can I cheer anyone up by sharing ads for Hellraiserβs Toronto release in September, 1987?
05.12.2025 19:51 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Never watched the Burton or Reeves flicks, only the old ones, which I quite like.
All of them were missing ape baseball though.
Fox became frustrated by the distance between their approach and Hayes' interpretation of Stone's ideas. As producer Don Murphy put it, "Terry wrote a Terminator and Fox wanted The Flintstones".[15] Fox studio executive Dylan Sellers felt the script could be improved by comedy. "What if Robinson finds himself in Ape land and the Apes are trying to play baseball? But they're missing one element, like the pitcher or something." Sellers continued. "Robinson knows what they're missing and he shows them, and they all start playing."[15] Sellers refused to give up his baseball scene, and when Hayes turned in the next script, sans baseball, Sellers fired him.
The loss of Tagawa led me to the Wiki for βPlanet of the Apesβ (β01), which led to the info that prior to Burton, we nearly had a reboot in the β90s from the βDead Calmβ team starring Schwarz, but it fizzled because a Fox exec insisted they add a scene where Arnie teaches apes how to play baseball?!

05.12.2025 18:07 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm not pro-merger, but the endless whining and doomerism on here over every single thing that happens is a bit tiresome.
05.12.2025 17:49 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Updating my mute words. Some of you are acting like movies are canceled forever when the merger hasnβt even gone through yet.
05.12.2025 17:46 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I do think itβs saying something interesting about American solipsism and hubris. For a movie thatβs sort of been absorbed into the culture as propaganda, it does depict the US military getting its ass kicked. A thorny movie for sure.

R.I.P. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. No shortage of great roles, including one in the terrific S4 MIAMI VICE episode βThe Rising Sun of Deathβ, in which Vice takes on the Yakuza.

Cinema Sin #39271: in this scene popular character Waylon Smithers commits no less than 7 felonies to Welsh singer Tom Jones and yet is never arrested for the crime. At the end of the episode Mr Jones even requests Marge βcall Interpol loveβ why wasnβt this followed up on? Did the writers forget??

Every turn and twist is exactly calculated and achieves its effect with the simplest of means; this shrewd, smooth, tawdry thriller is one of the high points of 40s films.
