You will need to unfreeze it only if you need a credit check for a major purchase (house, car etc) or to open a line of credit (loan, credit card etc).

I didn't know you could do this, but if you haven't done so, it might be time to freeze your credit.

You can call each credit agency Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion and freeze it, or use their online dashboard.
