The only conclusion I can draw from this is that there is something physically wrong and cognitively wrong with Trump, he knows it, and he's angry and frightened.

I’m wondering what authority ICE has to “order” a parish church to do anything, much less anything to do with free speech.

Travelers visiting the United States from countries like Britain, France, Germany and South Korea could soon have to undergo a review of up to five years of their social media history, according to a proposal filed on Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The change would affect visitors eligible for the visa waiver program, which allows people from 42 countries to travel to the United States for up to 90 days without a visa as long as they first obtain electronic travel authorization.

In a document filed on Tuesday in the Federal Register, C.B.P. said it plans to ask applicants for a long list of personal data including social media, email addresses from the last decade, and the names, birth dates, places of residence and birthplaces of parents, spouses, siblings and children.

Under the current system, applicants from visa waiver countries must enroll in the Electronic System for Travel Authorization program. They pay $40 and submit an email address, home address, phone number and emergency contact information. The authorization is good for two years.

As much information as possible about detainees (name, DOB, place of detention, time of detention, medical status) should be shared with attorneys.

People on the outside should communicate with a trusted attorney and request they go down to the Whipple Federal Building and ask to speak with the detained person.

Hopefully this will not happen to any more community members, whether citizens or not. But if it does, detainees should ask for an attorney and tell ICE you will not answer questions or sign anything. They should also try to get in contact with an attorney as soon as possible.

Two things seem to have affected when and whether they are released from custody: (1) detainees asking for a lawyer and saying they are not going to answer questions (right to attorney, right to silence); (2) lawyers showing up and demanding to see their clients being held in detention.

No one has been able to get confirmation of their whereabouts over the phone or email. Detainees have been held for approximately 4-6 hours and then released.

With the exception of one person who was taken to the hospital, the rest have been taken to the Whipple Federal Building immediately after their detention by ICE. They have not been "booked" or recorded in any jail roster or other public list of detainees.

Important notice:

In the last couple of weeks, several United States citizen protestors/observers in Minnesota have been arrested by ICE. Here's what we learned from these situations:

This is the most milquetoast, awkward, stilted comment on an issue that demands actual passion. The House Dems badly need a different front man.

Maybe not a different minority leader - maybe he's great at managing the caucus and doing the other political work. But as a speaker this is terrible

Rep. Thanedar has filed two articles of impeachment against Hegseth, one for "murder and conspiracy to murder" and the other for "reckless and unlawful mishandling of classified information." 🧵

(Full disclosure: I was happy to consult a bit on drafting this.)

SpaceX is a very valuable company, but it is not a $1.5 trillion company. This is just a way for Elon to extract more value out of it before it collapses.

This strongly suggests to me that there is a technical issue with Starship that makes it a non-starter for its intended use.

Next year it is likely that the AI bubble will burst and we will see economic disruptions on the order of 2008, and perhaps worse. The best case scenario is that the economy continues to limp along with Trump continuing to loot the Treasury to pay off favored interest groups. Either way, not good.

Gov. Pritzker Signs Bill to Protect Immigrants from Unjust Federal Actions HB 1312 enacts protections for immigrants as the Trump Administration terrorizes Illinois communities

The Illinois Bivens Act is now law - people can sue under state law for ICE’s constitutional violations. Which state is next? When the feds fall down on their obligations to protect people’s rights, it is time for states to step up.

WHICH MESSAGE WILL RESONATE WITH DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY VOTERS?

"Better angels of our nature"

OR

"Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger... I will punish the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pomp of the ruthless."

I rarely sound alarm - but please: do not believe what you hear or read from the legacy outlets.

For US news - these either serve the WH by definition or are intimidated to serve (always their decision though)

For global news - US media spreads pro-RU, anti-EU views under “America First” label.

CIVICUS, a global civil liberties watchdog, warns that the U.S. is experiencing a “rapid authoritarian shift” and declining civic freedoms following Donald Trump’s return to the presidency. In its latest report, the group downgraded the U.S. from “narrowed” to “obstructed” on its civic freedom scale

Between Mike Johnson and Donald Trump saying they know absolutely nothing about any of their actions or policies, this regime is both a literal and a figurative Know Nothing party.
