I do find the TESCREAL label unhelpful. It was actually based on the beliefs in the minds of a handful of "leaders", but tens of thousands of people have been smeared by this faulty reasoning.

The L of TESCREAL is for a philosophy called Longtermism, not Longevity

It's frustrating when people don't realise what a smear campaign looks like, or that certain personality types engage in them all the time.

The analysis is flawed. TESCREAL conspiracy theory encompasses effective altruists and their opponents accelerationists as well as Elon Musk and the donors who are giving to save lives under threat from the USAID cuts.

Be aware there's some misinformation on this topic. Musk's spokespeople have said he's never given a dime to EA. Thiel has donated to MIRI, a Rationalist group that's not EA, for illegible reasons. EA's most prominent critics do this (pictured) in a way that is not truthseeking

EA is part of TESCREAL. The above-mentioned donation to FLI was the basis of Torres claiming he donated. It's technically true while obscuring the greater truth which is that Musk barely donates to anyone. TESCREAL is a conspiracy theory where Torres has done this b/c Torres has an axe to grind
