How the Trump shooting supercharged beliefs in a divine right of MAGA Donald Trump and many of his followers have described the rally as a mass spiritual awakening, promoting beliefs that he enacts God’s will

An important β€” if disturbing β€” look at how last July's attempt on Trump's life supercharged MAGA belief that he was God's chosen candidate. When you presume God is on your side (and don't ask if you are aligned with God) any behavior can be excused wapo.st/4nLjwiT

15/15 In the end, it's clear: the right-wing media machine functions largely as an aggregator (reframing other reporting) & an amplifier (reposting misinformation/disinformation from social media). #MediaLiteracy

14/15 The irony? I checked Kirk's socials immediately after. On X, he cited reports from NYT & Politico. Turns out, he uses the "mainstream media" when it suits him.

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

13/15 The message from both Steele & Kirk: the MSM is dead, biased, & unreliable. The audience needs to do their "own research" & find podcasters they like (like Steele & Kirk, of course), who are the real "truth-tellers."

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

12/15 Steele, now a political podcaster, was pretty open about her current role. She bragged about covering Trump's trans sports ban executive order as a "new media outlet," framing her reporting to set up Karoline Leavitt for a perfect sound bite.

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

11/15 They're masters of media manipulation. The Christian Right has successfully denigrated "mainstream media," convincing their followers that only their outlets tell the "truth." So, when those furries-in-litter-boxes stories get debunked (again), it's dismissed as part of the MSM conspiracy.

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

10/15 This is a classic move. The Christian Right has a long history of pushing extreme, fabricated stories to provoke outrage & discredit the entire progressive movement. Think: sex ed concerns, book bans, the Satanic Panic... It's a pattern.

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

9/15 When someone incredulously asked if students were actually pulling down their pants in the hallway to poop in litter boxes, Kirk said... yes. Twice. He stressed that anyone who didn't know this wasn't living in reality & needed new media sources.

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

8/15 Then Steele repeated a 3-year-old, debunked hoax about schools in Scottsdale allowing students to identify as cats & use litter boxes. Kirk backed her up, saying it was true.

11.05.2025 01:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

7/15 The main target of their outrage? Trans women in female-only spaces & sports. Steele & Kirk called for dads to "stand up for their daughters," with Kirk lamenting that dads of the 1950s would have solved the problem already, the way dads of the 1950s did.
