4/ Although remittances may eventually improve nutritional outcomes in the long term, the initial disruptive effects could have lasting consequences on children’s growth trajectories.

3/ This negative impact appears to result from a short-term disruptive effect, likely driven by an income shock linked to migration.

2/ Key findings: The findings suggest that migration adversely affects the nutrition of left-behind individuals, particularly children.

1/ In this study, I examine how internal migration in Ghana affects the nutrition of individuals left behind, those who previously lived with a migrant and remain in the household of origin.
