Trump moves to slash NSF: why are the proposed budget cuts so big? Major US science funder could lose more than half its budget — and researchers are reeling.

The 2026 NSF budget requests a ~57% decrease compared to 2024. There is a ~66% cut for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (this is where materials research is located). The cut in scholarships for students is 64.6%, for postdocs - 91.4%. www.nature.com/articles/d41...
