Would have been lovely but probably needed 24 hours to mentally prep for a trip up to London (and re-arrange my day).

Which puts Starmer in a VERY interesting position as he has to maintain a cordial relationships with "friend of Epstein": the US President, while getting rid of Mandleson for being a "Friend of Epstein" and therefor showing very poor political judgement.

However it seems like the UK press, public and opposition seem to have more of an issue with being friends of Epstein than the US press, opposition or voting public.

In a twisted kind of way it of makes sense that they'd make "friend of Epstein" Peter Mandleson the US ambassador to work with that "other friend of Epstein" the US President. Although I'm not saying that was actually the reason why they did it.

And yes, their swing to the right has massively pissed on their more liberal base, many of whole will likely defect to Greens or LibDems.

In order to avoid losing working class voters to reform, they started espousing reform lite policies. However if you're Reform curious you want full fat reform rather than Reform lite, and don't really care if a policy works because Reform will always say they can do better without any actual plan.

As the Conservatives crumbled post election there was a big swing to the right thanks to popularists Reform, who (as populists do) pointed to a bunch of things they felt were wrong, without having a credible plan for how to put them right.

Labour have always been positioned as a tax raising party. The Conservatives ended up boxing them in to spending commitments in order to be seen as safe and win the election, but that prevented them from doing meaningful stuff when in power.

I'd say that they ran on a platform of "We're not the Conservatives", so arguably it was a protest vote.

Interesting thread. Thanks for sharing. Sounds like France might be the perfect place for the creation of European data centres and AI compute capacity.

Mornington Crescent: a rant.

Or: how a goofy word game about train stations is the key to how devout causes can ruin people's ability to have a conversation.

An AI engineer at one of the early stage startups I support recently got approached by a FAANG offering him more in annual salary than the entire amount of funding the company had raised so far.

Just heard a podcast advert claiming that in an age of disinformation the Time san Sunday Times in an unbiased voice yoh can trust, and my immediate feeling was have you read either of these recently as they basically feel like they’re taking the fires of the culture war.

Whenever I go to a new city I generally try to avoid these sorts of places like the plague. Have no interest in seeing the eiffel tower or the statue of liberty up close (although i love catching glimpses of these places from afar).
