The crazy thing is, I don't think govt does want to scrap the judgment. They went to great lengths to provide guidance for the offshore oil & gas industry on how to apply it.

Just another example of the govt blaming others (bats, newts...) for planning delays. And alienating voters in the process.

It is based on the Fingleton report on regulation of nuclear power, which is not behind a paywall (but takes an age to download_ assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/692080...

Fingleton's attack on Aarhus cost capping would severely undermine public access to justice - an attack on human rights too.

The Finch ruling - which came about through Sarah's tireless campaigning - means that the environmental impact assessment of a fossil fuel project must include the emissions from all the fuel it produces, and not just the impact of the infrastructure itself

For a major oil and gas-producing nation, a G7 member, and a country with significant historical responsibility for driving the climate crisis, ending oil & gas exploration is a significant decision.

Now the govt needs to follow through by refusing consent for Rosebank.
