Thanks Steve for inviting me onto the podcast. It was interesting to chat about the up- and down-sides of using the law in campaigns.
The law is a powerful tool for climate campaigners β but it's also expensive and there are no guarantees of success.

Letter to the Prime Minister: Donβt scrap the Finch ruling β Weald Action Group
The government is expected to respond to the Fingleton Review of Nuclear Regulation this week.
I've written to the Prime Minister and relevant Secretaries of State asking them NOT to implement two of its recommendations.

βFingleton found Unnecessary red-tapeβ¦ Well-intentioned, but fundamentally misguided, environmental regulations... I would go further.
In addition to accepting the Fingleton recommendations I am asking the Business Secretary to apply these lessons across the entire industrial strategy.β

"In his enthusiastic adoption of proposals to rip up environmental safeguards, Keir Starmer is showing the same misunderstanding he showed over the Planning & Infrastructure Bill.... There is nothing to be gained from fast-tracking developments if we destroy our environment in the process."

In 2024, we had a big win in the Supreme Court over the climate impact of coal, oil & gas.
20 months on, itβs has had a huge impact, in the UK and beyond.
But itβs about to face a test. Will the govt re-approve Rosebank?

Following our legal team's advice, TASC is appealing the High Courtβs refusal of our legal challenge because the safety of our coast & future generations is at stake. Plans for Sizewell Cβs additional sea defences have...1/2

Will Ed Miliband approve oilfields he once called βvandalismβ?
Jackdaw and Rosebank have spent years in legal limbo β but the push for economic growth could prove irresistible
Nice of the Sunday Times to ask my opinion on this hot topic.
I am quite sure Miliband will not want Rosebank approved on his watch. We now know it could generate 254 million tonnes of greenhouse gases. The idea this will not cause significant harm is laughable.

Similar in Exeter. I have seen a kingfisher in the University campus nearby. But Oriole??? I've never seen one of those.

Weβre half way through the hearing into our legal challenge on Gatwick Airport expansion β and the govt has made a partial concession on one of our grounds: noise. Weβre pleased we have secured better protection for local people on this at least.
