1964 – Smethwick General Election campaign: Tory electoral campaign in Smethwick exploits anti-immigrant sentiment with one slogan laying bare the open racism in UK politics at the time. The incident highlights how racial tensions were being mirrored and amplified in mainstream UK politics.

1963 – Bristol Bus Boycott

1965 – Campaign Against Racial Discrimination (CARD) founded
Formed after Martin Luther King Jr’s visit to the UK, CARD lobbies for anti-discrimination laws and legal reforms. In the following year, they submitted their influential 'Green Document' that proposed amendments to the upcoming Race

1959 – David Pitt runs for Parliament in Hampstead
