Everyone remembers "one is not born, but rather becomes a woman," but the actual opening of "The Second Sex" -- published in 1949, turned out to be the first book of feminism's second wave -- makes me laugh every time.

I'm gonna be real, saying anything even vaguely positive about systems in place to prevent access to transition or welfare is shooting yourself in the foot and patting yourself on the back about it

If they *really* needed it, they'd like it. And who decides what there is to like? What counts as absolutely necessary gender-affirming care measures and what's asking too much? Well it isn't you, that's for sure

There's not so much a slippery slope as a direct line from saying that ppl who go on to detransition never "needed it" and are frauds, to saying that trans ppl that aren't 100% sure and happy with the care provided to them are maybe kinda sorta frauds themselves, don't you think?

"Welfare fraud" is similar to the de-transition rate grift. Any time it's ever investigated it turns out only a small handful of people are actually defrauding the system and most people who get it actually need it.

I don't wanna spotlight this poster in particular (hence the crop), but this is like everything wrong with the way ppl talk about detransitioners. Yes, sure, detransitioning is tantamount defrauding Big Gender, why not. Yeah they didn't "*really* need it." UNLIKE ME!!

Before anyone comments, I do understand the article is making a rhetorical point, trying to score a gotcha about a women's organization welcoming men.

The rhetorical point is trash and going "heh, bet you forgot about trans men" is asinine in the light of the UKSC decision, frankly.

Guys, as a ex call center employee, this is fucking DESPERATION BEHAVIOR.

Pizza and ice cream once may be an entire year's planned discretionary budget for a team, they do NOT value them enough to provide common comfort. If their doing this? Their not just scared, their TERRIFIED.

I wish policy makers could given even half as much thought and compassion to the subject of trans youth and their support.

Really, really good interview on the issues with restricting transition care, creating adversarial relationships between patients and providers and advocating for trans-hostile standards that harm trans people and detransitioners alike.
