I would use public transport but a) getting to race tracks with it doesn't really work, b) driving is enjoyable, public transport is miserable, c) it's completely unreliable, and d) it doesn't even save any money most of the time

apart from that it's class though 🙃

love that petrol prices are going to jump up right as I've got some longer journeys planned/am going to be driving more 🫠

also it's sort of responsible for my name? there's a character called Meredith in the game, and while I didn't name myself after her that's probably why the name was on my mind. it's a name I'd always liked but it might not have immediately hit me as the right name if I hadn't been playing this game

Cassette Beasts: two reasons to include this. one is it's an excellent fresh take on the monster catching/collecting/battling genre. the other is this was the game I was sinking so much time into when I was Going Through It coming to terms with my transness, and deciding if I was going to come out

GTA V: I know it's cooler to prefer GTA IV, but I don't have any nostalgia for it. really this was the game that pushed me to try more games beyond my usual racing focus, so it's pretty significant for me. also I have so many hours in Online over the last 12+ years I feel obliged to include it

Forza Motorsport 4: the game that either directly or indirectly introduced me to a lot of my online friends. my first time getting into community-run online events, and it's just a really damn good racing game

LittleBigPlanet: mostly on this list for fond memories of playing it with my brother, also one of the first cases I'd experienced of a game that really encouraged creativity with the level creator. very much a right place, right time sort of game for me

Need for Speed ProStreet: the best vibes of any racing game ever imo. yes the physics kind of suck, and it's not very NFS-y, but none of that matters. no other game has better encapsulated the feeling of a race weekend. and the soundtrack fucking rips, too

Pokemon Ruby: my introduction to Pokemon via an older friend who had moved on to Pearl at the time and gave me his copy of Ruby. I didn't have a GBA or DS so I borrowed my Mum's DS she mostly used for Brain Training. she only got it back once I got my own DS

Gran Turismo 4: my favourite game of all time, so an obvious inclusion. you don't need me to explain why it's so good, do you

The Simpsons Hit & Run: a lot of people my age have lots of nostalgia for this game, and I'm not above that. I bought it the day I got my PS2, and played it relentlessly for years. as a kid who loved The Simpsons and also always wanted to be driving *something* in games, it was perfect for me

ToCA 2: the very first game I ever played, and probably a not-insignificant contributing factor in why I'm like this. possibly the best thing about this game is it included Knockhill, which for a five year old Meredith was an absolutely incredible thing to have access to
